Dominic Macerola was born sul letto (on bed, at home) in Aielli, Province of L’Aquila, in the region of Abruzzo (Southern Italy) 70 miles East of Rome. He grew up working in his Uncle’s Caffè— Caffè Aielli. As a young boy working at Caffé Aielli Dominic learned a time-honored and revered Italian tradition—the art and science of becoming a Master Barista. A few years later an ambitious young Dominic moved West with his Uncle pursuing a dream of bringing the tastes, feeling, sights and smells (most notably the coffee and cuisine of the Caffè) to a burgeoning new region on the other side of the world. And so it was in 1966 Dominic crossed the mighty Atlantic. Less than a year later Aielli Ristorante opened its doors on Lakeshore Drive near the shores of the Great Lake Ontario.

A few years later Dominic dreamed of something bigger. He wanted a business of his own and he wanted to live somewhere warmer, in a climate comparable to the one he enjoyed in his boyhood piazza near Rome. Like so many great pioneers before him, Dominic looked South and then West. He set his sights on what he believed would become and remain a great American outpost-a large and flourishing and great American City. It had all he wanted. It was cradled within a coast. It was warm. Commerce was growing. Its people were happy (and multiplying) and kissed by the Sun.

Dominic packed everything he had, drove South and then West. And he never looked back.

On a warm spring day in 1979 Dominic Macerola proudly opened his own business in what he, his family and many of his customers believe is the greatest American City in the Sun—Houston, Texas.

The day Dominic opened Rome Refreshment Services he pledged he would build his business on old world principals and values: honesty, accountability, work ethic, professionalism and the love of his country and community and fellow man.

He believed every working man and woman had a right to good coffee and clean water. And if any man, woman or business should choose him to be their provider of these vital and precious necessities he would treat them with honor, love and respect. He would treat them like members of his own family.

And for more than 32 years Dominic has done exactly that. He has provided the best coffee, the cleanest potable drinking water and the most state of the art and affordable vending services to the beloved people and businesses of Houston, Texas.

Before a machine is scheduled for service and maintenance Dominic or one of his sons (Gianpaolo, Saverio) go to that place of business to service and perform maintenance on the equipment, systems, filters and machines.

Dominic personally goes to a business to check and maintain your equipment before scheduled maintenance so you can enjoy refreshing water and superior coffee each and everyday. He goes before the maintenance is scheduled so there
is no problem-no service interruption. He wants his customers to know this. He does not want them worry about this. He believes you have enough on your mind. He will worry about this so you don’t have to. He knows your time is precious.

Coffee is one of my life’s great passions. I was born in Italy, just outside of Rome. My uncle owned a Caffè. As a young boy I remember watching the great care and reverence he took in making hand-crafted espresso for the people of our piazza
that came into his Caffè. And I remember the pleasure my townspeople took in drinking their coffee while visiting and doing business with their colleagues. His creations made that room lively and vibrant; senses awash with stimulation, energy and inspiration. The aroma, the flavor, the experience, the ritual is incomparable.

As the Owner and CEO of Rome Refreshments I strive to infuse this passion and reverence into the coffee and hot beverage services we provide our clientele. We use the finest machines, the most refined technology and the finest coffee beans and teas in bringing the fragrances, aromas, flavor and pleasure of an old world café into your place of business.
